Employment and training

We offer 'in house' training and currently employ a team of masons, carpenters, joiners, painters and labourers.

Our team is either trained ‘in house’ or has a minimum of three years experience and relevant NVQ qualifications.

Workshops

In conjunction with SPAB we also offer on site 'hands on' training days and local workshops. Previous workshops have included limewashing, lime rendering and pointing.

Our courses aim to help build basic practical skills in building repair. For both the concerned homeowner and the trainee craftsman the workshops provide valuable insight into technique and materials used.

Homeowners Courses
The SPAB weekend course aims to provide homeowners with the knowledge necessary to make informed decisions about the repair of their own property and offers the sort of expert guidance that is often hard to obtain.

School's visits

High Ham Primary School at Stembridge Mill 2009

High Ham Primary School children joined in discussion with Martin Watts, millwright, about how to approach the repair of traditional buildings; looking at the differences in using modern and traditional materials.

Ashill School at Thornfalcon 2004
Winner of the Business Awards 2004

Ashill School children aged 7-11 all donned hard hats for the morning when they joined us at Thornfalcon to excavate a section of the property uncovering old foundations.

They also tried out brick-laying and met the craftsmen working on the property during a guided tour to see the work in progress.

There was then a questions and answers section which helped the children understand the
complex process of repairing and updating historic buildings.
